In 2009, he created the animated series Jajá Arara Rara, selected by AnimaTV Program to have its pilot - which he directed - produced and exhibited at Brazilian Broadcasters TV Cultura e TV Brasil. Also in 2009, Chico founded Mol Toons, a company focused in producing cartoon animation. Since 2007, he teaches classes of Character Design at Istituto Europeo di Design, in São Paulo.

In Toon Boom Animate Pro I'm able to work almost all the animation steps in the same software, witch makes the process faster.

How long have you been in this profession?

9 Years

What are your most important accomplishments?

As a busyness man, founding my own cartoon animation company, Mol Toons. As an animator, creating and directing Jajá Arara Rara.

History with Toon Boom Animate Pro:

Until the release of Animate Pro, I had been interested in Toon Boom but never made the jump. Because Animate Pro added capabilities that I had become more and more interested in and because Flash continued to not support animation for television or film use I made the jump and have loved it every since.

Do you create animation using Toon Boom Animate Pro only?

No. I also use Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator and Premiere.

Why did you choose to combine these products?

To gain the best quality in the final product.

Please describe your workflow.

Screenplay - Storyboard (sometimes creating the screenplay directly on the storyboard) - Layouts - Background - Voice recording - Animation - Animation - Animation - Animation -Composition - Edition - Music Recording - Masterization.

What kind of animation do you create?

2D animation

What animation technique are you mostly using (i. e. cut-out, paperless, traditional)?

Paperless pose-to-pose animation and cut-out animation. It is something like the limited animation used by Hanna and Barbera mixed with full animation scenes.

What are your top five favorite features in Toon Boom Animate Pro:

  1. Drawing substitution
  2. 3D multiplane + camera animation
  3. Painting is really easy
  4. Perspective tool
  5. And I really like to draw and to clean up in Toon Boom Animate Pro

What Toon Boom Animate Pro’s features allow you to distinguish your animation?

All the features together make the animation process faster and the results have more quality. The software increases the creative possibilities in art direction and animation style. I think that drawing in Toon Boom gets the animation in a higher quality level.

Did you experience any productivity gains in using Toon Boom Animate Pro?

In Toon Boom Animate Pro I'm able to work almost all the animation steps in the same software, witch makes the process faster.

Are you more efficient today compared to your production toolset used previously?

Yes. I used to draw all the animation poses in Illustrator or Photoshop and then to compose it in After Effects. That way was too complicated to see if the animation was working. Now, the animation seems more fluid, taking me less time to accomplish the job.

Is it possible to get the same results with other digital animation software?

I don't think so. Flash works in a similar way, but I don't trust it's output. Actually, Flash is a software developed for web design, while Toon Boom is developed specifically for animation, witch makes it way more trustable. And working the way I used to (Illustrator + After Effects) takes too much time.

How do you/they feel about the Animate Pro?

Very pleased... and happy.

How was your leaning curve? Have you used the video tutorials?

I've spent a month watching the tutorials, reading the user guide. Then I had a week long seminar provided by the Toon Boom team.
