As a kid growing up in Western Pa., Marty sometimes got in trouble in school for drawing cartoons instead of paying attention in class. No one ever suspected he would grow up to be an educator, but he always got an “A” in art! In the 10th grade, Marty enrolled at the Mercer County Vo-Tech School in Mercer Pennsylvania to study Commercial Art & Graphics. When he got his first computer, his passion for animation took off. For the last ten years has been working full time for Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland, creating educational media for the e-Learning team. His games and cartoons are now part of online curriculum throughout the North Eastern U S

Online learning is revolutionizing education. I’m excited to be using cartoon animation as a cutting – edge tool to make the experience more engaging. Instead of dry blocks of text and PowerPoints, I am able to create funny animations that draw students in. Student feedback is always enthusiastic. I know I have hit my target when I hear laughter during project focus groups.
I’ve used Toon Boom for years, starting with Studio in 2002. Since then I’ve progressed through Digital Pro to Animate, and finally to Animate Pro.
No. I’m still using Flash to add interactivity and text.
I find it is the most efficient combination to get the job done.
The first phase is all audio. I do most of my own voices, sound FX and music using Adobe Audition and SonicFire Pro. After importing my soundtrack and storyboard, I use the storyboard panels as rough key frames. I sketch in breakdown and in-between drawings very loose and rough, just looking for the movement. Then I design and rig my cut out characters and animate them in the layers above the rough work.
2D, in a variety of character styles.
The super customizable workspace, the 3D multiplane camera, the ink, paint and palette system, compositing network and real - time anti aliasing.
Having a program which supports such a wide range of working methods enables me to explore and evolve my own unique style.
Yes! Turnaround time is always faster when you have all the right tools in one place.
With Animate Pro, moving on to the next phase of production is as easy as opening another workspace. I never have to waste time opening, closing and importing work across multiple programs.
In my experience, no, at least not when time is a factor.
My wife is getting jealous ;D
I was up and running in a very short time. When I have questions that I need help with, I turn to the support documents or the tutorials. If I still need help, customer service has always been great.
I have a small one man studio with some sound equipment, one flat screen monitor and a Cintiq.
