Trent Correy is a graduate student from the Algonquin College Traditional Animation Program.
My most important accomplishment is finishing a high quality film with two other students, working well as a team, and executing a story.
As a kid I grew up with all the cool animated features: Disney, Bluth, Pixar,…I was also in love with the Hollywood cartoons of the forties like Tom and Jerry, Tex Avery and the Warner Brothers cartoons. So I was always interested in animation. When I found out after high school, that there were a few animation courses I could follow, I knew: I got to try this!
I was introduced to the Algonquin Animation Program by browsing through a course book in grade 12.
At Algonquin we have a great computer class that covers the basics of Animate Pro and teaches us to animate with the program. Through the classes we get a better understanding of how the program works, and what we can do with it.
There are classes in third year, which include about 10-15 students. Ages of students can range anywhere between 21 and 35.

We create some animation within the Animate Pro, with the builds we have. But majority of the animation is done on paper, and then scanned and composited into Animate Pro.
Thankfully, paper and pencil still exists.
We choose to combine Pencil Check Pro, Storyboard Pro and Animate Pro because that is what we are trained with, and we could get the highest quality images using this solution.
We create mostly lip sync animation assignments, along with walks, runs and character interactions. Our third year project is a short film.
My top five things in the Harmony solution are- The ability to paint line art, shadows, scanning, coloring and effects.
As soon as I understood the program, my learning curve was fast and efficient.
It would be nice to work in studios with Harmony, because of my understanding of the solution.
