Cut-out puppets can look rigid and stiff. However traditional, hand-drawn characters can be time-consuming to animate. Get the best of both worlds by discovering Harmony's new Deformation Effect; squash, stretch, bend and wriggle your cut-out puppet in a whole new way. Learn about the different types of Deformers (bones and curves), then rig a cut-out character with multiple views using a Deformation skeleton. Lastly, find out how to store your rigged Deformation puppet in the Library for reuse and how to animate using your mixed Deformation rig.
Deciding between using Pencil lines or Brush strokes for your animation has always been a challenge. Now you can get both the flexibility of a central vector line, with the stylistic look of tapered strokes. Learn all about Harmony's improved Pencil Tool, including editing stroke tips, thinning and thickening lines, merging strokes automatically, smoothing and pushing. In addition, discover the fantastic world of resolution free Pencil line textures, whose gradients and texture fills follow the curvature of the stroke. Lastly, find out how to animate both the textured Pencil line and the textured Pencil line fill using the Colour Override Effect.
Animating a random mass of drawings in a natural way has always been a time-consuming challenge for animators. Rain, snow, grass, swarms of insects and even non-atmospheric particle effects, such as a throng of bouncing tennis balls, can now be easily created in Harmony. In this series, learn all about the new Particle Effect modules, including their colour coding, how to structure them and their Layer Properties. Discover the many default Particle Effect Templates and how to create a particle system of animated drawings.
Import 3D models into your animation using the new Maya-to-osb plug-in. Create stunning 3D models with the full power of Autodesk Maya and then learn how to install the Maya plug-in in order to export to the Harmony-friendly *.osb format. Enable the 3D token to unlock Harmony’s 3D capabilities for *.osb import, then set up your system and network to render the 3D model using the Maya Soft Renderer. For seamless integration, colour the model with a Toon shader, then continue to make use of its 3D angles in a 2D world.
